Dear Saints…

Temptation! This was the topic of conversation I've had with several people in the last few weeks. Why do you think? It's because it was the first "punch" that Satan threw at Eve and still throws at us. He planted a thought in her mind and she took it from there.

We need to understand that Eve wasn't just standing around trying to figure out how to disobey God. The initial thought to do evil never begins with us. I've come to realize that the enemy studies us the way a coach studies game films of opponents.

Satan knows our weak spots. He knows which temptation has the best chance of success against us. How many times have you said, "I promised God and myself that I'd never do that again", yet you did it? Listen, the enemy knows what works on you and me.

But (I love it when I can say this) we are not defenseless because God gives us this assurance: "No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it." (I Cor. 10:13)

I've heard it said that God builds a "back door" into every temptation with a lighted "exit" sign over it. The key word here is "with". The way of escape comes with the temptation.

Understand that we will never be exempt from temptation but we can be victorious over it. In time as we get stronger spiritually, Satan discovers that his strategies against us don't work anymore, and he goes looking elsewhere.

Serving notice...
